Per state regulation residents must have an assessment done by an RN to determine if a resident benefits from having side rails on their bed and if so what type e.g. half bed rails, full bed rails, on one side or both sides etc. Bed rails can help retain and regain upper body strength, make getting in and out of bed easier and help promote independence for the resident. The resident can use the rails to turn from side to side and reposition in bed. They can also help reduce falls from bed. There are many different types of fall alarms. Some can be transferred from the resident's bed to their wheelchair and to any other seat they are sitting in. Others are sensors that are placed on the floor or bed to alert the caregiver when the resident gets out of bed. There are clips that can be placed on a resident's shirt so when they attempt to get up it will alert the caregiver. The alarms can be set to silent and only alert the caregiver via vibration and or noise. Some residents benefit from the alarm making a loud noise in their presence as a frequent safety reminder. I Care can assess what is best for you or your loved one and make recommendations based on client needs and benefits.

Residents in Adult Family Homes may require or benefit from mechanical devices to be transferred or to help with transferring. I Care Nursing can assess if you or your loved one may benefit from any of these devices. Promoting independence is very important and these devices can help sustain as much independence as possible. When a resident is heavy to lift or is stiff to transfer, a hoyer lift can help keep the patient and the caregiver safe. By using a hoyer lift the patient can still participate in activities in common areas versus being bed bound. A trapeze bar can help a patient use their upper body strength to move in bed, promote good circulation and greatly reduce the risk for pressure sores. A transfer pole can help patients that are able to bare weight. If they have balance and or strength issues they can use the transfer pole to help with safety and promote independence. Caregivers often appreciate medical devices that are used as they can make their job easier and put less physical strain on them. I Care can assess the benefit and safety of these devices.
